Veterinary Surgeon West London
VetSeekers
Veterinary Surgeon – West London / Middlesex
An established independent small animal practice in West London is looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join its large, supportive clinical team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Vet with around 2 years' UK first-opinion experience who is already comfortable managing their own caseload and routine surgery, but would now like to work within a larger multi-vet environment with greater case exposure, good facilities and experienced colleagues around them.
The vacancy has arisen due to an existing Veterinary Surgeon relocating because of their partner's military posting, with a late December / January start anticipated.
Key Highlights
- Salary up to £60,000 DOE, with potential flexibility for a significantly more experienced Vet.
- Permanent position – 40 hours per week.
- Part-time may also be considered depending on experience.
- Predominantly based at the main hospital with approximately 1 day per week at a nearby branch.
- Large team of approximately 7 FTE Vets, 4 RVNs and 3 SVNs.
- Around 2 dedicated surgery sessions per week, approximately 3 hours each.
- No routine OOH.
- Weekend rota shared across the Vet team.
- Accommodation potentially available.
- Independent practice with three established sites.
- Modern hospital facilities following a significant refurbishment.
- Suitable for an experienced Vet who enjoys sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues.
The Role
The successful Veterinary Surgeon will work across a varied small animal first-opinion caseload, combining consultations, medical cases and routine surgery.
You should be comfortable working independently and managing your own cases, including periods of sole charge, while also enjoying being part of a larger clinical team.
The practice is happy to consider a Vet with around 2 years' UK experience, provided you are already clinically confident and capable of working without significant day-to-day supervision.
You should also enjoy sharing your experience and knowledge with colleagues and be comfortable supporting less experienced members of the clinical team.
The role includes approximately two surgery sessions per week, currently around three hours each, alongside consultations and general first-opinion case management.
Rota & Work–Life Balance
The position is based around 40 hours per week, with current shifts including:
- 8:30am – 8:30pm
- 8:00am – 5:30pm
- 11:00am – 8:30pm
- 8:30am – 5:00pm
There is approximately one branch day per week.
The weekend rota currently includes:
- Approximately 1 in 3 Saturday mornings – 8:30am to 1:00pm.
- Approximately 1 in 5 weekends, involving Saturday/Sunday inpatient rechecks where required. These are generally short morning checks rather than a full weekend shift, and attendance may not always be necessary depending on the cases in hospital.
There is no routine OOH requirement, with emergency care outside practice opening hours provided externally.
Part-time working may also be considered for the right candidate.
Facilities & Team
The practice is proudly independent and has been caring for pets in the local community for many decades. The main hospital underwent a significant refurbishment in 2025 and provides full surgical and hospitalisation facilities. Arden House Animal Hospital
The current clinical team includes approximately:
- 7 FTE Veterinary Surgeons
- 4 Registered Veterinary Nurses
- 3 Student Veterinary Nurses
- Experienced support colleagues across the wider practice
Current facilities include:
- Digital X-ray.
- Abdominal and cardiac ultrasound.
- In-house haematology, biochemistry and electrolyte testing.
- Urinalysis and cytology.
- Fully equipped operating theatre.
- Separate dog and cat wards.
- Dedicated isolation facilities.
- Modern anaesthetic and surgical facilities.
- Ability to share diagnostic imaging with specialists when required. Arden House Animal Hospital
The wider group operates across three local practices, giving the team a broad client base and varied first-opinion caseload. Arden House Animal Hospital
What We're Looking For
You must be an RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon with ideally at least 2 years' UK small animal experience.
You should be:
- Confident with routine consultations and medical cases.
- Comfortable with routine small animal surgery.
- Able to manage your own caseload independently.
- Comfortable with occasional sole charge.
- Happy working within a busy multi-vet environment.
- Keen to share knowledge and support colleagues.
- A strong communicator with excellent client-care skills.
- Organised, proactive and clinically confident.
- Interested in continuing to broaden your case exposure within an established independent practice.
The practice would also welcome additional clinical interests that could complement the existing team.
Salary & Benefits
- Salary up to £60,000 DOE.
- Potential flexibility above this level for a particularly experienced candidate.
- Permanent 40-hour week.
- Part-time considered depending on experience.
- No routine OOH.
- Shared weekend rota.
- Accommodation potentially available at either the main hospital or one of the nearby branches.
- Opportunity to work within a large independent multi-vet team.
- Broad medical and surgical caseload.
- Access to modern diagnostic and surgical facilities.
About the Practice
This is a long-established independent small animal practice with a strong local reputation and three sites across West London/Middlesex.
The main hospital provides full surgical and hospitalisation facilities and has been substantially modernised, while the wider branch network allows the team to maintain strong relationships with local clients and provide continuity of care. Arden House Animal Hospital
This would particularly suit a Vet who has gained good independence during their first few years in practice but is now looking for the case exposure, teamwork and professional environment of a larger established practice.
