An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Veterinary Surgeon to join a well-established, family-run small animal practice in the Leeds area of West Yorkshire. Offering a salary of £40,000–£65,000 depending on experience, flexible working between 20 and 40 hours per week, a 1 in 4 weekend rota and no OOH, this is an excellent opportunity for a Vet seeking a supportive working environment with genuine opportunities for clinical development.
You'll be joining an experienced veterinary team, including certificate holders in surgery, cardiology and dermatology, with access to advanced diagnostic equipment and the opportunity to manage a varied caseload. The practice places particular emphasis on clinical freedom, protected breaks, forward rota planning and helping colleagues achieve a healthy work-life balance.

The Practice
You'll be joining an established, family-run small animal practice with a strong emphasis on providing high standards of veterinary care within a friendly and supportive working environment.
The practice is led by four partners who remain actively involved in clinical work, bringing more than 85 years of combined veterinary experience. They are supported by a knowledgeable team of Veterinary Surgeons, Registered Veterinary Nurses, Student Veterinary Nurses and support staff.
The wider team includes:
• 4 Practice Partners. • 4 additional Veterinary Surgeons. • 8 Registered Veterinary Nurses. • 3 Student Veterinary Nurses. • 2 Veterinary Care Assistants. • 4 Receptionists. • Full-time Practice Manager.
The clinical team includes certificate holders in surgery, cardiology and dermatology, alongside colleagues undertaking further qualifications in behavioural medicine.
This breadth of experience allows the practice to manage a wide variety of advanced medical and surgical cases in-house, reducing the need for external referrals and enabling vets to retain ownership of their cases from initial investigation through to treatment and follow-up.
Clinical freedom is actively encouraged, with vets supported in developing their own approaches to case management while benefiting from the knowledge and experience of their colleagues.
The Role
This is a varied first-opinion small animal position offering the opportunity to work across consultations, diagnostic investigations, medical cases and surgical procedures.
You'll be encouraged to develop your own clinical interests and take an active role in investigating and managing cases, with experienced colleagues available to provide support and guidance.
Depending on your experience and interests, there will be opportunities to become involved in:
• Routine consultations and preventative healthcare. • Medical investigations and ongoing case management. • Routine and advanced soft tissue surgery. • BOAS procedures. • Orthopaedic surgery. • Cardiology and cardiac investigations. • Dermatology. • Diagnostic imaging and ultrasound. • Endoscopy. • Behavioural medicine. • More complex medical and surgical cases.
The practice is particularly well suited to Veterinary Surgeons who enjoy developing their clinical knowledge, investigating cases thoroughly and maintaining continuity of patient care.
Rota
The practice places considerable importance on work-life balance and offers flexible working arrangements to accommodate different lifestyles and personal commitments.
• 20–40 hours per week, depending on preference. • Full-time and part-time working patterns considered. • Regular weekday off. • 1 in 4 weekends. • No OOH. • No on-call responsibilities. • Protected scheduled lunch breaks. • Dedicated consultation breaks for administration, laboratory results and client communication. • Consultations finishing 45 minutes before closing. • Rota currently planned through to the end of 2027.

The Candidate
We're looking for an RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys providing high-quality small animal care and working collaboratively within an experienced team.
The position could suit a Veterinary Surgeon looking to develop further clinical confidence or a more experienced colleague with additional qualifications and an interest in taking on greater responsibilities.
The ideal candidate will have:
• Experience in small animal first-opinion practice. • Confidence managing consultations and medical cases. • Surgical skills appropriate to their level of experience. • An interest in thorough diagnostic investigations and case management. • Good communication and client care skills. • A collaborative and supportive approach. • Enthusiasm for continuing professional development. • An interest in developing additional medical or surgical skills.
Veterinary Surgeons with certificates or those working towards advanced qualifications are particularly encouraged to apply.
Salary & Benefits
The practice offers a flexible remuneration package, taking into account experience, qualifications, responsibilities and individual preferences.
