The Practice
You'll be joining a locally owned small animal practice which has been established for around 10 years and has developed a large and varied caseload alongside a loyal client base.
The practice benefits from considerable space and natural light and is equipped to provide a broad range of first-opinion medical, diagnostic and surgical services.
Current facilities include an in-house laboratory, pharmacy, digital X-ray, ultrasound, operating theatre, hospital ward, isolation facilities, blood pressure monitoring and dentistry facilities.
The practice is open seven days a week, currently operating from 9:00am–7:00pm Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm Saturday and 10:30am–4:00pm Sunday. Your own rota is based around four working days and a 1 in 3 weekend rota rather than working across all seven days.
The Team
You'll be joining an established clinical and support team with a good mix of experience and clinical interests.
The current veterinary team includes vets with particular interests in surgery, diagnostic imaging and internal medicine, providing opportunities for collaboration and case discussion within the practice.
The nursing and support team includes an experienced Practice Manager/Head RVN, Senior RVN and Veterinary Care Assistants, alongside reception and administrative support. The Head RVN qualified in 2009 and is also involved in developing and training members of the nursing team.
The Practice Owner operates this practice alongside a sister practice elsewhere in West London and places a strong emphasis on professional development, encouraging individual clinical interests and giving colleagues the opportunity to contribute ideas to the development of the practice.
The Role
This position would suit an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with a strong general practice background who is confident managing a varied first-opinion small animal caseload.
You'll be involved in consultations, routine and non-routine medical cases, diagnostics, surgery and ongoing case management.
A particularly attractive feature of the role is the provision of 30-minute consultations, giving you significantly more time to assess patients, communicate properly with clients and work cases up without the pressure associated with shorter consulting slots.
The role is based around:
• Four working days per week.
• 1 in 3 weekend rota.
• Flexible working arrangements considered.
• 30-minute consultations.
• No OOH.
Clinical autonomy and professional development are encouraged, and the practice is happy to support vets who would like to undertake a certificate or develop a particular area of interest.
The Candidate
We're looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with a broad range of small animal GP skills.
You'll ideally be:
• RCVS registered.
• Experienced within small animal practice.
• Confident with routine small animal medicine.
• Competent with general surgical procedures.
• Comfortable working up your own cases.
• Confident communicating with clients and building long-term relationships.
• A collaborative team member.
• Interested in continuing your professional development.
• Keen to contribute ideas and experience within an established practice.
This isn't positioned as a new graduate role; the practice is specifically looking for someone who can bring a good level of existing clinical experience and confidence to the team.
Facilities & Clinical Services
The practice provides a broad range of first-opinion services and facilities, including:
• Digital X-ray.
• Ultrasound.
• In-house laboratory.
• Pharmacy.
• Operating theatre.
• Hospital ward and inpatient facilities.
• Isolation unit.
• Blood pressure monitoring.
• Dentistry.
• Biochemistry and electrolyte testing.
• General anaesthesia facilities.
• Emergency cover arrangements.
Salary & Benefits
• £60,000–£85,000, depending on experience.
• Four-day working week.
• Flexible working arrangements considered.
• 30-minute consultations.
• 1 in 3 weekend rota.
• No OOH.
• 5.6 weeks' annual leave.
• Generous CPD support.
• Certificate support available.
• Paid RCVS membership.
• Paid BVA membership.
• Paid VDS membership.
• Contributory pension scheme.
• Life assurance – 4x annual salary.
• Cycle to Work scheme.
• Employee wellbeing and assistance programmes.
• Company and retail discounts.
• On-site parking.
The Location
The practice is situated in a well-connected part of West London, offering a useful balance between access to central London and the more residential areas of the capital.
Despite its London location, the practice benefits from on-site parking and is also within walking distance of both Central line Underground services and a mainline railway station, making it accessible for candidates travelling by either car or public transport.
With a salary reaching £85,000, a four-day week, 30-minute consultations, no OOH and an established clinical team, this is an excellent opportunity for an experienced vet looking for a well-supported GP position with genuine scope to develop their clinical interests.
