The Role
This is a varied first-opinion nursing position where you'll be encouraged to utilise your clinical skills rather than being restricted to basic nursing duties.
The nursing team has a particular strength in anaesthesia, so this would be an excellent opportunity for an RVN who already enjoys anaesthetic nursing or would like to develop further in this area.
Your duties will include a mixture of:
- Theatre and surgical nursing.
- Anaesthetic monitoring.
- Inpatient care.
- Patient admissions and discharges.
- Nurse consultations.
- Diagnostic imaging.
- Laboratory work.
- Dental procedures.
- Supporting the veterinary team with medical and surgical cases.
- General clinical nursing responsibilities.
With a varied caseload and a visiting Orthopaedic Specialist, there are also plenty of opportunities to gain further surgical and anaesthesia experience.
Rota
One of the key advantages of this position is the flexibility available around working hours.
The practice can consider both full and part-time applications, allowing the rota to be structured around the successful candidate where possible.
The rota includes:
- Full or part-time hours considered.
- Flexible working patterns.
- 1 in 3 full Saturdays.
- No Sundays.
- No OOH.
- Paid lunch hour.
- Protected breaks and dedicated time within the diary to catch up on administration.
This is a practice that has deliberately structured its staffing levels and diary management to ensure colleagues are able to take their breaks and have time to complete their work.
Facilities & Team
You'll be joining a stable clinical team currently consisting of:
- 3 full-time Veterinary Surgeons.
- 3 full-time RVNs.
- 1 Student Veterinary Nurse.
- Practice Manager.
- 3 Receptionists.
The Head Nurse is also a Clinical Coach, supporting the practice's SVN through their training, and the practice places considerable emphasis on ongoing learning and professional development.
A visiting Orthopaedic Specialist further broadens the caseload and provides the nursing team with exposure to more advanced surgical procedures.
The practice is well equipped with:
- Full in-house IDEXX laboratory.
- ProCyte.
- Catalyst One.
- InVue Dx.
- SediVue Dx.
- Ultrasound.
- Digital X-ray.
- Dedicated dental X-ray.
- Tonometer.
- Patient warming equipment.
- Fluid pumps.
- Syringe drivers.
- Modern anaesthetic monitoring equipment.
The practice is also an RCVS Practice Standards Scheme accredited practice, an RVN training practice and holds Silver Cat Friendly status.
About You
We're looking for an RCVS Registered Veterinary Nurse who enjoys being clinically involved and wants to work within a supportive and experienced team.
You'll ideally have:
- Good general veterinary nursing experience.
- A genuine interest in animal welfare and patient care.
- Strong communication and client-care skills.
- An interest in using and continuing to develop your clinical nursing skills.
- Confidence working as part of a veterinary and nursing team.
- Good organisational skills.
- An interest in anaesthesia would be particularly welcomed.
The practice actively encourages its nurses to develop professionally, so there is scope to pursue further CPD and develop particular clinical interests.
Salary & Benefits
- Salary up to £33,500 FTE, depending on experience.
- Flexible full or part-time hours.
- Paid lunch hour.
- No Sundays.
- No OOH.
- CPD allowance.
- Paid RCVS fees.
- Paid BVNA membership.
- Private healthcare.
- Contributory pension scheme.
- Additional day off for your birthday.
- Career development opportunities.
- Support from an experienced Head Nurse and Clinical Coach.
- Company and lifestyle discounts, including up to 20% off associated pet retail and veterinary services.
About the Practice
This is an established small animal practice serving the Glasgow and East Dunbartonshire area, with a strong emphasis on clinical standards, colleague development and maintaining a stable working environment.
The practice has been part of the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme for around 14 years and combines modern facilities with an experienced team and varied first-opinion caseload.
Importantly, staffing levels are structured to allow the team to have proper breaks and catch-up time rather than continually working through an overloaded diary.
For an RVN looking to develop clinically, there is a strong emphasis on anaesthesia, diagnostic nursing and surgical support, alongside opportunities to learn through the visiting orthopaedic service.
The Location
The practice is situated in the Glasgow area, within East Dunbartonshire, providing convenient access from Glasgow and surrounding communities.
This is an attractive opportunity for an RVN looking for up to £33,500 FTE, flexible hours, a 1 in 3 Saturday rota, no Sundays, no OOH and paid lunch breaks, while still having access to an interesting caseload and excellent clinical facilities.
