Night Veterinary Surgeon | Dorset

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Night Veterinary Surgeon to join a recently refurbished, multidisciplinary 24-hour veterinary hospital in Dorset, close to the Jurassic Coast.

This is a permanent, part-time night position offering a salary of up to £80,000 FTE DOE, working just two nights every three weeks. The role would suit an experienced Vet who is confident working sole charge and enjoys emergency, critical care and inpatient case management.

The Role

Working as the Night Veterinary Surgeon, you'll take responsibility for patients requiring overnight emergency and hospital care.

This is a sole charge veterinary position, so you'll need to be comfortable assessing and managing cases independently, although you'll work alongside an experienced RVN and have the support of an established 24-hour hospital team.

The hospital provides out-of-hours services for a significant number of surrounding veterinary practices, resulting in exposure to a broad and interesting range of emergency and inpatient cases.

Rota

The position offers an unusually low-frequency night rota:

• 2 consecutive night shifts every 3 weeks
• Monday and Tuesday
• 18:45 – 09:00
• Average approximately 9.5 hours per week

This could particularly suit an experienced Vet wanting to retain exposure to hospital and ECC work without committing to a traditional full-time night rota.

You'll be joining a highly equipped multidisciplinary hospital with facilities including:

• CT scanner supporting internal and outpatient referrals
• Digital X-ray
• Ultrasound
• Dental X-ray
• Endoscopy
• Two sterile surgical suites
• Dedicated in-house laboratory
• Isolation facilities
• Separate dog and cat wards
• ISFM Silver Cat Friendly status
• Hydrotherapy unit
• Peripatetic physiotherapy provision

The wider clinical team includes certificate holders in:

• Emergency and Critical Care
• Diagnostic Imaging
• Internal Medicine
• Dermatology

Other colleagues are working towards additional surgical and dental qualifications, providing a strong environment for case discussion and professional development.

About You

You'll need to be an RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon with at least 3 years' proven UK experience.

Due to the sole charge nature of the position, you'll need to be confident managing the full range of duties that may arise during a night shift, including emergency presentations and hospitalised patients.

Previous ECC experience would be advantageous, particularly given the hospital's regional out-of-hours caseload.

Salary

• Up to £80,000 FTE DOE
• Part-time salary will be pro rata to the contracted hours
