Locum Veterinary Surgeon Staffordshire

Locum Veterinary Surgeon | Staffordshire
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Locum Veterinary Surgeon to join a friendly, family-run independent veterinary practice in Staffordshire for an initial period of 2-3 months.
Offering up to £500 per day, this flexible locum position is ideally three days per week, with Monday, Wednesday and Friday preferred; however, the practice is happy to adapt the rota and can offer three consecutive working days if this better suits the successful vet. There are no weekends and no out-of-hours, and an accommodation allowance can be provided if required.
The practice is happy to consider either a 100% Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon or a mixed Veterinary Surgeon interested in a caseload of approximately 90% small animal and 10% equine work.

- Independent, family-run veterinary practice.
- 100% small animal vets welcome.
- Alternatively, approximately 90% small animal / 10% equine caseload available.
- Varied first opinion medical and surgical caseload.
- Friendly and experienced clinical team.
The Practice
This established, family-run independent veterinary practice has been caring for animals across Staffordshire for more than 25 years and has developed a loyal client base through its friendly, personal approach to veterinary care.
The practice provides comprehensive veterinary care across small animals and equine patients, with a particular emphasis on first opinion medicine, surgery and preventative healthcare. It also has considerable experience caring for working and athletic dogs, including Greyhounds.
For a locum Veterinary Surgeon, this provides the opportunity to work within a genuinely independent environment where the emphasis remains on providing personable, compassionate and professional veterinary care.
The practice is happy to shape the position around the successful locum's clinical background. A vet wanting an entirely small animal caseload can be accommodated, while a mixed vet interested in retaining some equine work can undertake a caseload of approximately 90% small animal and 10% equine.
The Role
This is an ASAP locum requirement expected to run for approximately 2-3 months, providing a good opportunity for a Veterinary Surgeon looking to secure regular days with an independent practice.
The majority of the caseload is small animal first opinion work, including:
- Consultations.
- General medicine.
- Routine surgery.
- Diagnostics.
- Preventative healthcare.
- Vaccinations.
- Neutering.
- General medical and surgical procedures.
The practice also provides equine veterinary care, including routine healthcare, vaccinations, worming, castrations, medical treatment and general surgical procedures. Equine work is available for a suitable mixed vet but is not a requirement of the position.
Rota & Work-Life Balance
The practice is looking for a locum to work three days per week.
The preferred working pattern is:
- Monday.
- Wednesday.
- Friday.
- Approximately 10:00am-6:30pm.
Importantly, there is flexibility around the working days. If three consecutive days would be more practical, the practice can adapt the rota to accommodate this.
There are no weekend requirements and no out-of-hours duties attached to the locum position. The practice uses external support for its out-of-hours emergency provision.
The Candidate
The practice is looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon who can confidently integrate into an independent first opinion environment and provide a high standard of patient and client care.
Applications are welcomed from:
- Experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeons.
- Mixed Veterinary Surgeons.
- Locums wanting a 100% small animal position.
- Mixed vets comfortable with an approximately 90% small animal / 10% equine caseload.
- Veterinary Surgeons available for three days per week.
- Vets looking for a regular 2-3 month locum booking.
The successful candidate will be RCVS registered, comfortable with general first opinion veterinary work and confident working as part of an established independent practice.
Location
Located in a lovely part of Staffordshire, the practice benefits from an attractive semi-rural setting while remaining within convenient reach of major towns, cities and transport links across the Midlands.
The surrounding area offers a good combination of countryside, local amenities and accessibility, making the position particularly suitable for a locum looking for a regular booking away from home.
For candidates travelling into the area, an accommodation allowance can be provided if required.
