An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse to step into a Head RVN position within a progressive and supportive small animal practice in Ayrshire. The Practice

This established small animal practice forms part of a closely connected group of three surgeries across Ayrshire, providing the benefits of a large and experienced clinical team while maintaining the friendly atmosphere of locally run practices.

Across the three sites, the team comprises approximately 60 colleagues, including 14 Veterinary Surgeons, 12 Registered Veterinary Nurses, two Veterinary Care Assistants, three GDP-trained Clinical Lead Vets and three Clinical Coach RVNs. This provides an excellent network of clinical experience, knowledge and support.

The wider leadership structure includes experienced Head Nurses, Senior Nurses and an RVN Business Partner, ensuring nursing has a genuine voice within the organisation and providing excellent support as you develop your own leadership skills.

The nursing team includes colleagues with additional training and interests in areas including acupuncture, pain management, behaviour and Schedule 3 surgical procedures. Nurses are actively encouraged to utilise their clinical skills rather than being restricted to routine duties.

The Role

This is a Head Registered Veterinary Nurse position offering between 30 and 40 hours per week, with both full and part-time working patterns considered. The rota can be flexible depending on individual circumstances, with participation in a shared 1 in 4 Saturday rota and no out-of-hours commitments.

You'll combine hands-on clinical nursing with additional leadership responsibilities, helping to support, motivate and develop colleagues while maintaining excellent standards of patient and client care.

Clinically, you'll remain actively involved across areas including nurse consultations, anaesthesia, theatre, inpatient care and Schedule 3 procedures. You'll also lead by example, helping create a positive working environment where colleagues feel supported and encouraged to develop.

You'll have access to significant support from the wider nursing structure across the three practices, including Head Nurses, Senior Nurses and an experienced RVN Business Partner.

The Candidate

The successful candidate will be an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse who is ready to take the next step in their career and develop further within a leadership position.

You'll be confident clinically, passionate about veterinary nursing and comfortable taking responsibility and providing direction when required. Strong communication and organisational skills are essential, together with the ability to motivate colleagues and lead by example.

You'll also be a positive and approachable team player who enjoys remaining hands-on clinically and is passionate about delivering outstanding patient and client care.
