An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join a friendly and growing first opinion practice in the Southend-on-Sea area. The Practice
This well-established RCVS-accredited small animal practice has developed a strong reputation for delivering gold-standard clinical care while maintaining a welcoming and supportive working environment.
You'll be joining an experienced team comprising two Veterinary Surgeons, a Head Registered Veterinary Nurse, two Registered Veterinary Nurses, four Client Care Advisors and a dedicated Practice Manager. The practice is led by an experienced Veterinary Surgeon who has been qualified for more than 25 years, providing excellent clinical support across both medicine and surgery.
The practice continues to invest in its clinical capabilities and benefits from a recently installed ultrasound system with four probes, alongside endoscopy, diagnostic imaging, dentistry and comprehensive in-house laboratory facilities.

The Location
Located in the Southend-on-Sea area of Essex, the practice offers an excellent combination of coastal living and convenient access to London. Direct rail connections provide journeys into Central London in under an hour, while the surrounding area offers beaches, parks, restaurants, shopping and plenty of leisure opportunities.
The location also benefits from excellent road and public transport connections across Essex, making it an attractive option for candidates looking for easy access to both the capital and the coast.
The Role
This is ideally a full-time position working 40 hours per week, with typical shifts running from 9:00am to 7:30pm and participation in the Saturday rota. There are no out-of-hours commitments.
You'll manage your own varied first opinion caseload across consultations, medicine and surgery while working alongside an experienced and supportive clinical team. The practice is particularly interested in a Veterinary Surgeon with strong surgical skills, with dentistry experience considered advantageous.
There will be an element of lone working, so you'll need to be comfortable making independent clinical decisions and managing your own caseload confidently.
Professional development is actively encouraged, with generous CPD funding and financial support available for candidates wishing to pursue further certificates and develop individual clinical interests.
The Candidate
The successful candidate will be an experienced RCVS-registered Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon with previous UK practice experience.
You'll be confident across routine small animal medicine and surgery, comfortable managing cases independently and possess strong surgical skills. Dentistry experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
Excellent communication and client relationship skills are important, together with a positive and collaborative approach to teamwork. You'll be passionate about delivering exceptional patient care and keen to continue developing your clinical knowledge and expertise.
