The Practice
This established North London small animal practice is looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to take responsibility for the clinical leadership of its veterinary team.
You'll work within a close-knit practice environment where collaboration between the veterinary, nursing and support teams is central to delivering excellent patient and client care.
As Lead Vet, you'll have genuine influence over clinical standards, team development and the direction of the practice, while remaining actively involved with consultations, procedures and case management.
You'll work closely with the Practice Manager, combining clinical leadership with an understanding of the operational and commercial performance of the clinic.
The Role
This is a hands-on clinical leadership position encompassing both veterinary work and responsibility for supporting and developing the wider clinical team.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Delivering consultations and clinical procedures.
• Maintaining high standards of patient care and monitoring.
• Managing admissions and discharges where appropriate.
• Ensuring accurate and up-to-date clinical records.
• Prescribing medication and carrying out dispensing checks.
• Preparing appropriate treatment plans and estimates for clients.
• Providing clear communication and updates throughout a patient's treatment.
• Arranging clinical handovers and transfers where patients require enhanced or out-of-hours care.
• Maintaining regulatory, operational and clinical standards.
• Mentoring veterinary colleagues and graduates.
• Sharing clinical best practice across the team.
• Leading clinical meetings and communicating changes in practice standards.
• Working alongside the Practice Manager to support the continued growth and performance of the clinic.
Clinical Leadership
A significant part of the position will involve helping create and maintain a progressive clinical culture.
You'll support colleagues through clinical mentoring and development plans, encourage the sharing of best practice and help ensure veterinary and nursing standards are consistently maintained.
You'll also have the opportunity to influence how clinical capacity and skills are utilised across the practice, helping the team deliver excellent care while supporting the ongoing development of the clinic.
The Candidate
You must be an RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon with strong clinical experience and the confidence to lead and support a veterinary team.
You'll ideally be able to demonstrate:

• Confidence mentoring and developing colleagues.
• Strong communication and influencing skills.
• An understanding of regulatory and practice standards.
• The ability to develop a progressive clinical culture.
