Deputy Head Registered Veterinary Nurse | Lincoln, Lincolnshire
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse to join a modern, purpose-built small animal practice in Lincoln as Deputy Head Nurse. This permanent full-time position offers the opportunity to combine hands-on clinical nursing with team leadership, supporting an experienced Head Nurse and helping a newly established nursing team continue to develop.
The practice has entered an exciting new phase, with a stable and experienced nursing team now in place. This is an excellent opportunity to join a positive, forward-thinking environment where nursing skills are fully utilised, Schedule 3 development is actively encouraged and high clinical standards are central to the way the team works.
Key Highlights
• Salary £31,000 – £35,000 per annum depending on experience.
• Permanent full-time position.
• 40 hours per week across a 4-day working week.
• 9-hour shifts.
• 1 in 4 weekend rota.
• Duty nights on rotation.
• Flexible working patterns considered.
• Leadership role combining clinical nursing and team development.
• Experienced Head Nurse and established nursing team.
• Excellent CPD and career progression opportunities.
The Practice
This modern, purpose-built small animal practice provides a spacious and well-equipped environment designed to support excellent clinical care, efficient patient journeys and a positive working experience for the entire team.
Following a period of significant change, the practice now has an experienced and stable nursing team led by a highly capable Head Nurse. The nursing team includes four experienced RVNs with interests across a range of Schedule 3 activities.
The nurses confidently support and undertake work including:
• Orthopaedic procedures.
• Complex soft tissue surgery.
• Stage 1 dental procedures.
• Nurse consultations.
• Diagnostic radiography.
• Inpatient care and monitoring.
• Preventative healthcare.
The nursing team is supported by a stable client care team consisting of four Customer Experience Coordinators and two weekend Animal Care Assistants.
The wider clinical team currently benefits from support provided by experienced Veterinary Surgeons with interests including surgery, ophthalmology, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine and cardiology. This provides an excellent clinical environment in which to share knowledge, develop skills and deliver thorough patient care.
The practice also has a loyal client base, with a high proportion of clients enrolled in preventative healthcare plans. This supports strong client engagement and allows the clinical team to investigate cases thoroughly and focus on treating underlying conditions rather than symptoms alone.
The Location
Located in Lincoln, the practice is well placed for access to the city centre, surrounding Lincolnshire countryside, the Lincolnshire Wolds and the East Coast.
Lincoln offers a distinctive combination of history, culture, restaurants, independent shops and green spaces. The city is home to Lincoln Cathedral, Lincoln Castle and one of the surviving original copies of the Magna Carta, while still providing excellent modern amenities and a comparatively affordable cost of living.
The Role
This position supports the Head Nurse in leading the nursing team and maintaining the efficiency, clinical governance and smooth day-to-day operation of the practice.
You will continue to work clinically while also helping colleagues develop their confidence, supporting the effective use of nursing skills and promoting continuous improvement across the practice.
Typical responsibilities include:

• Maintaining high theatre, ward and infection-control standards.
• Supporting stock control and clinical equipment management.
• Promoting accurate clinical records and compliance with practice protocols.
