An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse with a passion for emergency and critical care to join a busy, well-established 24-hour small animal hospital in the Leeds area. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a highly skilled Out of Hours team, working within a modern referral-level environment that combines emergency and critical care with a thriving first opinion caseload. The Practice
This purpose-built, RCVS Accredited Small Animal Hospital has been providing exceptional veterinary care for over a decade and has established itself as one of the region’s leading emergency and referral centres. Alongside a thriving first opinion service, the hospital provides Out of Hours and referral support to numerous local practices, creating an exceptionally varied and rewarding caseload.
The hospital employs around 70 colleagues, including a large team of experienced Veterinary Surgeons, Registered Veterinary Nurses, Veterinary Care Assistants, Receptionists and dedicated night teams. Excellent communication, teamwork and clinical support are central to the hospital’s culture, with a strong focus on delivering gold-standard patient care.
As part of the Out of Hours team, you’ll work alongside an experienced Veterinary Surgeon, Veterinary Care Assistant and dedicated Receptionist each night, with additional support from twilight RVNs during the evening handover to ensure seamless continuity of patient care.

The Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse with a genuine interest in Emergency and Critical Care nursing.
Working as part of the dedicated night team, you’ll care for a wide range of patients including emergency admissions, medical inpatients, post-operative cases and complex surgical patients. The role involves managing advanced nursing cases including oesophageal feeding tubes, chest drains, abdominal drains, urinary catheters, wound management and intensive patient monitoring.
You’ll also assist with complex emergency procedures and anaesthesia, including caesarean sections, GDVs and exploratory laparotomies, making full use of the hospital’s advanced monitoring and ventilation equipment.
The rota follows a 7 nights on, 14 nights off pattern, providing an excellent work-life balance while allowing you to develop your skills within a true referral-level environment.
The Candidate
The successful candidate will be an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse with previous Emergency and Critical Care nursing experience.
You should be confident managing complex hospitalised patients, working within a fast-paced emergency environment and delivering exceptional patient care. A certificate in Emergency and Critical Care Nursing, or a genuine desire to work towards one, would be highly desirable.
You’ll be an excellent communicator, calm under pressure and enjoy working collaboratively within a supportive multidisciplinary team committed to clinical excellence.
