The Practice
This exciting new small animal practice forms part of one of the UK’s largest independent, family-owned veterinary groups and has been purpose-built to provide outstanding first opinion veterinary care within a spacious, modern and collaborative environment.
As Head Veterinary Surgeon, you’ll have the unique opportunity to establish the clinical direction of the practice from the outset, building and mentoring your own team while creating a positive working culture focused on exceptional patient care, collaboration and continuous improvement.

The Role
This permanent Head Veterinary Surgeon position combines clinical excellence with leadership responsibility, allowing you to influence every aspect of the practice while remaining actively involved in first opinion medicine and surgery.
Working an average of 39 hours per week across four 9-hour days, together with a 1 in 4 weekend rota, you’ll lead the veterinary team while maintaining the highest standards of clinical governance and patient care.
Typical responsibilities include:
• Leading and developing the veterinary team.
• Delivering high-quality first opinion consultations and surgical procedures.
• Driving clinical governance and maintaining exceptional clinical standards.
• Mentoring and supporting Veterinary Surgeons and recent graduates.
• Building strong relationships with clients and the local community.
• Supporting recruitment, induction and professional development.
• Promoting evidence-based medicine and a diagnostic-led approach to patient care.
• Leading clinical audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Working collaboratively with the nursing leadership team to deliver exceptional patient outcomes.
• Helping shape the long-term growth, culture and success of the new practice.

About You
• MRCVS registered Veterinary Surgeon.
• Strong small animal GP experience.
• Confident in both first opinion medicine and surgery.
• Previous leadership or mentoring experience.
• Passionate about developing colleagues and creating a positive team culture.
• Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills.
• Committed to delivering exceptional patient and client care.
• Motivated to build and develop a successful new veterinary practice.
