OOH Veterinary Surgeon | West Yorkshire (Leeds Area)

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced OOH Veterinary Surgeon to join a well-established, independently owned 24-hour small animal hospital in West Yorkshire. This permanent full-time position offers exposure to a varied emergency and critical care caseload within a modern, well-equipped hospital, supported by an experienced multidisciplinary team.

The Practice

This independently owned, RCVS-accredited 24-hour small animal hospital provides both first opinion and emergency care, supporting a network of referring practices across the region. The hospital offers an excellent balance of continuity of care and advanced clinical exposure, allowing vets to fully work up a diverse range of medical and surgical cases.

Facilities include:

• CT scanner.
• Laparoscopic equipment.
• Digital radiography.
• Dental radiography.
• Ultrasonography.
• Endoscopy.
• IDEXX in-house laboratory.
• ECG.
• Tonopen.
• Orthopaedic surgical equipment.

You will be supported by an experienced team of veterinary surgeons, registered veterinary nurses and support staff, including certificate holders across a range of disciplines. A dedicated night team ensures excellent clinical support throughout every shift.

The Location

Located in West Yorkshire with excellent access to Leeds and the surrounding areas, the hospital benefits from excellent motorway links, making commuting straightforward from across the region.

The Role

This permanent out-of-hours position follows a 7 nights on, 14 nights off rota, providing an excellent work-life balance while maintaining exposure to a varied ECC caseload.

Typical responsibilities include:

• Emergency consultations.
• Emergency and routine surgical procedures.
• Medical case management.
• Inpatient care and monitoring.
• Working alongside an experienced overnight clinical team.
• Delivering outstanding patient and client care.

You will regularly manage a varied emergency caseload, including:

• Caesarean sections.
• Pyometra surgery.
• Exploratory laparotomies.
• Enterotomies and enterectomies.
• Addisonian crises.
• Diabetic ketoacidosis.
• Severe pancreatitis.
• Advanced emergency procedures with full training and support provided where required.

About You

• MRCVS registered Veterinary Surgeon.
• Previous emergency and critical care experience.
• Confident in both emergency medicine and surgery.
• Excellent communication and teamworking skills.
• Passionate about delivering exceptional patient care.
