The Organisation
This role sits within a well-established, multi-site veterinary group operating a Tier 3 hospital with its own in-house out-of-hours service and certificate-led referral teams. The practice is values-driven, committed to gold-standard patient care, excellent client communication and providing a genuinely supportive environment for colleagues.
With a busy hospital caseload and strong internal referral pathways, the clinical exposure is both challenging and rewarding, supported by experienced teams and advanced diagnostic facilities.
The Role
You will join the hospital night team, working in sole charge overnight with excellent nursing support throughout each shift. The role offers a varied mix of inpatient care and emergency and critical care work, making it ideal for a confident vet who enjoys autonomy alongside strong team backing.
A typical working pattern includes:

5 nights every 3 weeks

Sole charge overnight

Caring for hospital inpatients

Managing A&E and OOH cases

Supported by qualified nurses during every shift
The structured rota provides concentrated clinical exposure balanced by generous time off, allowing for strong work–life balance and recovery between shifts.
What We're Looking For

RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon
-
Proven experience working in sole charge
-
Confidence managing ECC and inpatient cases overnight

Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
-
Calm, organised approach in emergency situations

Team-focused and aligned with high clinical standards
Facilities & Clinical Support
You will have full access to advanced hospital facilities and in-house expertise, including:

CT scanner

Doppler echocardiography

Flexible and rigid endoscopy

Digital radiography suites

Ultrasound scanners

Dental radiography
-
Electrocautery and laparoscopy

Advanced anaesthesia and monitoring equipment

Support from certificate holders and referral clinicians across the group

Based in Cheshire, the hospital benefits from an excellent location close to both the Peak District and the Lake District, ideal for outdoor pursuits. Manchester is a short train journey away, offering superb transport links, culture and city life.
