Veterinary Surgeon Leeds, West Yorkshire

VetSeekers
Location: Leeds, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom
Hours: Full time, 4 weekdays (Mon–Fri) plus 1 in 4 weekends (10hrs Saturday, 10hrs Sunday). No sole charge.
Salary: Dependent on experience
The Role:
We are seeking an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join a busy 24/7 small animal hospital in West Yorkshire. This position is primarily consult-focused, with opportunities to combine consulting with hospital inpatient shifts. Vets with a background or interest in ophthalmology, imaging, or inpatient medicine would be particularly well-suited.
This is not a surgical-heavy role and would not be suitable for vets seeking a high surgical caseload. Instead, the position offers an exciting opportunity to manage complex medical cases, consults, and hospitalised patients, supported by a large, advanced veterinary team.
About the Hospital:
This is a modern, purpose-built 24/7 hospital serving both first opinion and referral cases. The site provides primary care alongside a large emergency, critical care, and referral caseload from across the region. The environment is fast-paced, clinically advanced, and highly collaborative, with certificate holders across surgery, medicine, and dentistry providing strong peer support.
The Team:
You'll be joining a team of around 70 colleagues, including 15 vets, with in-house certificate holders and a proactive CPD and clinical development culture. Regular teaching, peer support, and clinical meetings create an excellent environment for ongoing professional growth.
Facilities & Equipment:
The hospital is exceptionally well-equipped, including:
-
Advanced laboratory: Procyte haematology, Catalyst Dx, EPOC, Coags (APTT/PT), transfusion medicine, lipid testing
-
Digital X-ray, advanced ultrasound with Doppler
-
CT scanner
-
Flexible video endoscopy (gastroscope, bronchoscope), video otoscope, rigid scopes
-
Laparoscopy
-
Dental X-ray with CR7 developer
-
Multiparameter monitoring (ECG, capnography, temperature, SpO2, BP)
-
Doppler BP, ECG
-
Vessel sealing and cautery systems (Gen11, Valleylab monopolar/bipolar, Ligaclips)
-
Advanced surgical and hospitalisation facilities
Caseloads include:
-
Emergency surgeries (caesareans, pyometra, laparotomy, enterotomy, enterectomy)
-
Complex medical cases (Addisonian crisis, DKA, severe pancreatitis)
-
Advanced procedures: oesophageal tube placements, chest drains, abdominal drains, urinary catheters, TFAST/AFAST, endoscopy, negative pressure wound therapy
The Area:
Located in Leeds, the hospital is easily accessible from across West Yorkshire, with excellent transport links via the M62, M1, and A1. Leeds offers the best of both worlds: a vibrant city with excellent amenities alongside access to the Yorkshire Dales and Peak District for outdoor activities.
Benefits include:
-
Competitive salary (DOE)
-
4-day working week plus 1 in 4 weekends
-
£1,500 CPD allowance
-
Certificate sponsorship encouraged and supported
-
Structured in-house CPD and clinical development programme
-
Paid professional memberships (RCVS, VDS)
-
Contributory pension scheme
-
Supportive, collaborative hospital team environment
Must Haves
- RCVS Registered (or soon to be)
- Possess the right to work in the United Kingdom
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
