Permanent Veterinary Surgeon – Wanstead, London

We are recruiting on behalf of a busy veterinary hospital in Wanstead, East London, for a Permanent Veterinary Surgeon to join their experienced and supportive team.

This is a full-time role, averaging 40 hours per week on a 6-week rotational rota, including 1:3 Saturdays and 1:6 Sundays. The rota is designed to provide varied experience across all areas of the hospital, including consulting, surgery, wards, and ECC. Bank holiday cover (up to 2 per year) and last-resort on-call duties are also included.

This is an excellent opportunity for a competent GP vet who enjoys hospital practice and wants to be part of the largest ECC provider in London. You will be joining a modern, well-equipped hospital offering an excellent standard of patient and client care.

About the role

The successful candidate will be confident with routine surgeries (including bitch spays and dentals) and comfortable managing emergency cases. You will also have the chance to work alongside advanced surgeons and medics across a wide range of cases.

Key responsibilities include:

• Carrying out routine consultations and surgeries

• Managing emergency cases and providing ECC support

• Collaborating with colleagues across consulting, surgical, medical, and ward duties

• Delivering a high standard of clinical care to patients and clients

Key details

• Type: Small animal, hospital environment

• Hours: Full-time, average 40 hours per week

• Weekends: 1:3 Saturdays, 1:6 Sundays

• OOH: Last-resort on-call rota, plus up to 2 bank holidays per year

• Sole charge: Some required

• Team: Large hospital team including senior medics, ECC vets, GP vets, RVNs, students, nursing assistants, and clinical managers

The practice is fully equipped with advanced facilities including a CT scanner, commercial laboratory, and the ability to provide advanced orthopaedic, soft tissue, and minimally invasive surgeries.

You will be supported by an experienced multidisciplinary team, creating an excellent environment for both professional development and delivering outstanding veterinary care.

• You will be a qualified Veterinary Surgeon confident in routine surgery and case management

Package

• Salary: £45,000 to £61,000 per annum (commensurate with experience)

• Holidays: 6.6 weeks annual leave including bank holidays

• CPD: Up to £2,000 allowance plus 5 paid CPD days

• Memberships: Professional fees paid

Must Haves
