Permanent Lead Veterinary Surgeon – Horsham
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to take on a key leadership role at a well-established, progressive hospital in Horsham.
This is a full-time, permanent position offering a salary of up to £85,000 per annum, together with a comprehensive benefits package and excellent career development opportunities.
The successful candidate will be a confident clinician able to combine strong clinical skills with natural leadership ability. You will work closely with the Practice Manager to oversee daily operations, support colleagues, and ensure the delivery of the highest standards of patient and client care. This role requires excellent communication, commercial awareness, and the ability to inspire and mentor a team within a busy hospital environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing first-class veterinary care to patients during consultations, diagnostics, and surgical procedures
- Delivering outstanding service to clients, ensuring clear communication and updates on cases
- Ensuring all clinical, operational, and regulatory standards are upheld to the highest level
- Preparing accurate client estimates, discussing treatment plans, and supporting financial responsibility within the practice
- Leading, mentoring, and developing veterinary and nursing teams to maximise their skills and performance
- Promoting a culture of continuous improvement, clinical excellence, and best practice sharing across the team
Essential requirements:
- RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon
- Minimum of five years' clinical experience in the UK
- Demonstrated leadership ability and experience of mentoring junior colleagues
- Strong teamwork, coaching, and influencing skills
- Proven record of driving high standards of clinical care and delivering excellent client experiences
- Commercial understanding and the ability to balance clinical priorities with business performance
The hospital is purpose-built and equipped with cutting-edge facilities, including digital radiography, dental radiography, multiparameter anaesthetic monitoring, in-house laboratory, endoscopy, bronchoscopy, CT scanner, and two dedicated theatres. Thoughtful design ensures the best patient care with separate cat and dog wards, species-specific waiting areas, and an isolation unit.
