An excellent opportunity for an experienced and confident Registered Veterinary Nurse to step into a Head Nurse role within a modern, well-equipped small animal practice in Barnsley. This position is ideal for an RVN who enjoys leading and developing teams while remaining clinically hands-on, and who is passionate about delivering consistently high standards of patient care and client service.
The Role
This is a senior nursing leadership position with responsibility for overseeing the day-to-day clinical and operational running of the nursing team.
You will play a key role in maintaining clinical standards, supporting team development and ensuring the practice runs efficiently while fostering a positive and supportive working environment.
Key responsibilities include:

Leading, mentoring and supporting RVNs, student nurses and VCAs

Driving high standards of clinical care, governance and compliance
-
Supporting rota planning, workflow and diary efficiency
-
Remaining hands-on clinically across consultations, inpatient care and surgery
-
Supporting training, CPD and professional development within the team
-
Acting as a key point of contact for nursing standards and best practice
-
Working closely with the wider leadership team to support continuous improvement
Working Pattern
-
Full-time role
-
Typically a 4-day working week
-
9-hour shifts
-
1 in 4 weekend rota
-
Duty nights on rotation

The practice is purpose-built, modern and well equipped, offering a varied and interesting caseload with strong clinical support.

About You
The ideal candidate will:

Be a qualified and RCVS-registered Veterinary Nurse
-
Have solid clinical experience within small animal practice
-
Be confident, motivated and approachable in a leadership role
-
Enjoy coaching, mentoring and developing others
-
Have excellent communication and organisational skills
-
Be committed to maintaining high clinical and client care standards
-
Be keen to continue developing professionally and as a leader

Must Haves
