Role: Permanent Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon

Salary: Dependent on experience (up to £60,000 DOE)

Hours: Full time, 4 days per week
-
Weekends: 1 in 4 weekends (10-hour shifts Sat & Sun, no sole charge, ECC, 30-min sick pet consults, inpatient care)

Certificates: £1,500 annual CPD allowance, certificate sponsorship fully supported
The Role
-
Mix of consulting, inpatient care and some surgery (consult-focused vets welcome)

Opportunity to develop specialisms – particularly ophthalmology, with scope to run clinics and procedure days supported by referrals from 19 feeder practices

Supported by certificate holders in Surgery, Medicine and Dentistry

Structured in-house CPD/clinical development team to help you progress
The Ideal Candidate
-
RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon with strong UK small animal experience
-
Confident with medical cases, ECC, and inpatient care
-
Suitable for:
-
Consult-focused vets
-
Experienced medical vets with imaging/complex case interests
-
Vets with ophthalmology background/interest (significant referral demand)

Not suitable for: newly qualified vets or those requiring extensive in-house training
About the Hospital
This RCVS-accredited 24/7 hospital has a team of 70 colleagues including 15 vets, and provides both primary care and referral-level services across West Yorkshire. Facilities include:

Advanced procedures: Oesophageal tubes, chest drains, peritoneal drains, urinary catheters, TFAST/AFAST, endoscopy, negative pressure wound therapy, transfusion medicine

Caseloads: Emergency surgeries (caesareans, pyometra, enterotomy/enterectomy), Addisonian crises, DKA, severe pancreatitis cases

Equipment:

Full in-house lab (Procyte, Catalyst Dx, EPOC, Coags)

CT scanner
-
Digital X-ray, advanced ultrasound with Doppler
-
Dental X-ray with CR7 developer
-
Flexible and rigid scopes, video otoscope

Multiparameter monitors (ECG, SpO2, capnography, BP, temp)

Laparoscopy
-
Gen11 vessel sealing, Valleylab bipolar/monopolar, Ligaclips

E20 sterilisation system

6.6 weeks annual leave including bank holidays

Must Haves
