Permanent Head Veterinary Nurse – Launceston, Cornwall
We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established and progressive independent mixed veterinary practice located in the beautiful town of Launceston, Cornwall. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and passionate Head Veterinary Nurse to lead a dynamic and experienced nursing team.
Surrounded by stunning countryside and only 30 minutes from the coast, the Practice offers a fantastic lifestyle opportunity with excellent access to Exeter, Plymouth, the A30 and M5.
As one of the largest independent practices in the South West, the Practice takes pride in offering 24/7 care, including their own out-of-hours service, supported by a committed nursing team.
About the role:
This is a leadership role suited to an enthusiastic and proactive individual who will thrive in managing and mentoring a team of over 20 nursing professionals, including RVNs, SVNs, VCSs, and kennel assistants. Working alongside 25 vets, including five hands-on directors, this position plays a key role in the continued development of the nursing department and overall practice operations.
Key responsibilities:

Managing and mentoring a team of skilled and compassionate nurses

Overseeing the day-to-day running of the nursing team and clinical procedures

Conducting regular one-to-one meetings and appraisals
-
Leading departmental meetings and enhancing collaboration between the two sites.

Ensuring health and safety standards are upheld within the nursing team

Fostering a positive and inclusive team environment
-
Supporting ongoing clinical development and CPD opportunities for the team

Participating in nursing shifts including inpatient care, theatre, consults, prep, and out-of-hours cover as required

Dedicated dental suite

Fully equipped laboratory

New ultrasound scanner

Digital x-ray and dental x-ray machines

Advanced monitoring equipment, including multi-parameter and BP monitors

Separate dog and cat wards
Package includes:
-
Full-time role across 4 days per week
-
Salary of £32,500–£34,500 (dependent on experience)

Out-of-hours rota: 1 week in 7 (Friday to Tuesday, 8pm–8am)

Weekend day shifts (Saturday & Sunday, 8am–8pm)

33 days annual leave (including bank holidays), pro-rata

Must haves:
- RCVS Registered & Qualified or soon to be.
