We are recruiting on behalf of an independent mixed animal practice in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire for a Permanent Equine Veterinary Surgeon to join their team.
The practice takes pride in being a respected independent practice within their community, offering a well-equipped and enthusiastic mobile service with modern tools. We are seeking a driven assistant vet to join their team of two experienced partners and two other assistants. The candidate will receive sufficient support while being encouraged to see their cases through to completion. The practice provides services such as gastroscopy, scanning, laser therapy, endoscopy, X-rays, nerve blocking, and artificial insemination. More complex cases, including surgical colic and unresolved lameness, are referred elsewhere. Although your caseload will be mostly equine, you will also see some farm animal cases but there will be no TB testing.
This role is full time for 4.5 days per week with shifts from 7:30am to 5:30pm, along with 1 in 5 weekends on-call. After working a weekend on-call, you will get the following Friday off.
Key details:
- Type: 80% equine, 20% farm animal
- Hours: Full time, 4.5 days per week, shifts between 7:30am and 5:30pm
- Weekends: 1 in 5 weekends on-call
- OOH: None
- On-call: 1 in 5 weekends
- TOIL: Fridays off following a weekend on-call
- Sole charge: None
- Branch work: N/A
- Consultations: 15 minutes
- Team: Strong veterinary team and a supportive non-clinical team

- A kind and empathetic attitude is essential
- You will be ambitious looking to study towards a certificate or be a certificate holding surgeon looking to progress further
- You will be a team player
- The role is not determined on years of experience and be catered to suit but ultimately the Vet needs to be ambitious looking to develop your clinical skills and knowledge further
- Areas of special interest would be an advantage
- You will want to be at the forefront of the practice help growing and developing the services and facilities provided
- You will have excellent customer facing skills
- You will work well within the team alongside other veterinary specialists and clinicians
- You will be a passionate and motivated veterinary surgeon with a genuine interest for animal welfare
Facilities:
The practice offers a wide range of modern veterinary services along with state-of-the-art technology and diagnostic equipment.
Package:
- Salary: £40,000 to £60,000 per annum, commensurate to experience
- Holidays: 25 days annual leave

Must haves:
